Bixby Facing Revamped 2026 District Schedule

Utilizing a point system and after spirited discussions, Class 6A’s two football districts were finalized by the Oklahoma Secondary Schools Activities Association recently. Bixby’s Spartans face familiar opponents on the revamped eight-team District 1 schedule, which features six west side teams.
In non-district openers, the Spartans visit Owasso in the annual Battle of the Burbs, hosts Class 6A-II’s Stillwater and entertains Jenks in the annual meeting.
District opponents, in order, includes at Mustang, Westmoore, Edmond Memorial, Norman North, Edmond North, Broken Arrow and Southmoore. Bixby travels to Mustang, Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Southmoore.
Class 6A, District 2 features seven teams since Enid opted to play an independent schedule. Competing in the district are Deer Creek-Edmond, Edmond Santa Fe, Jenks, Moore, Owasso, Union and Yukon.
“We’ve got a little more traveling,” Bixby head coach Loren Montgomery said of the schedule. “From my perspective I didn’t want to be in a district with one less game since Enid became an independent. It’s been a little messy this year.
“The last four years the way they’ve done the schedule was to apply a success formula to it … you get points for district wins, points for first round playoff wins, semifinal and state championship wins or playing in the state championship game,” he added. “Going by the points, it was us, Owasso, Jenks and BA at the top. That’s how they applied the points to supposedly make the districts more even based during the last two years. There are some common sense like the first year all three Moore teams were in the same district so that didn’t make a lot of sense … you should probably split them.
“They took the Oklahoma Football Coaches Association’s recommendation, which involved some spirited discussions.”
Montgomery needed a couple of games after leaving the district meetings for the non-district schedule. “We’ll go to Owasso and have Stillwater and Jenks here for the non-district games. Us and Jenks decided to play if we weren’t in the same district and Stillwater needed a game, too. “It’ll be super competitive. We should have some good home crowds for Stillwater and Jenks.” LOOKING BACK – In the successful journey to the 2025 Class 6A state championship victory, Bixby featured a balanced offensive attack with 3,510 yards passing and 3,291 yards rushing. The 2025 Spartans were led by numerous veterans in all phases of the game. “I think if you guessed going into the season you’d probably think you’d have more passing yards with a veteran quarterback (Carson Kirby) back and with Braeden Presley, Emory Snyder, Tyler Wright, Cetcher DeHart and Nathan Gonzales all having played a lot of reps at wide receiver,” coach Montgomery said.
“Our offensive line ended up being good and Jayson Moll was a great addition. He was electric and he stayed healthy. And I thought Gabe Blankenship had a really good year. Down the stretch we ran Carson a little and Jack Gill did a good job in the jumbo package. You never know in high school what you’ll be good at.
“We lost lots of really good players. We had 42 seniors. You look at the back end on defense where Nate Gonzales, Braeden Presley, Emory Snyder and Tyler Wright were all really good ones,” he added.
“Cord Nolan and Trey McGlothlin on defense played great and other good ones were Maverick Nance and Dawson Madden. KP (Penny) played well and Hector Garcia were electric … our defense played lights out because we had so many guys who played well.
Kirby, a three-year starter, passed for 2,939 yards and 39 touchdowns while being intercepted seven times. He had a completion percentage of .700. Moll rushed for 1,506 yards and 17 touchdowns while Gill rushed for 456 yards and 12 TDs and Blankenship rushed for 309 yards and six TDs.
Presley led the balanced receiving group with 28 catches for 597 yards and five touchdowns while Gonzales had a team-leading 44 receptions for 581 yards and nine TDs. DeHart caught 29 passes for 403 yards and four TDs; Snyder ended with 21 catches for 376 yards and three TDs, and Wright 18 receptions for 258 yards and two TDs. Defensively, Nolan led the Spartans with 87 tackles while recording 19 tackles for loss; McGlothlin ended with 82 tackles and 16 tackles for loss; Snyder had 64 tackles, and Wright ended with 59 tackles and eight pass interceptions, returning three for touchdowns. Nance ended with 57 total tackles and Madden ended with 45 tackles and led the team with 23 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
As a team, the Spartans were credited with 37sacks and 24 pass interceptions. On special teams, Bradley Thao hit 68 of 70 extra point attempts and was five-of-six on field goal attempts while recording 67 touchbacks on kickoffs.
With the departure of a significant number of seniors, the Spartans will look for replacements during spring ball and during summer workouts. There is talent returning. “We’ve been here before but we’re going to have to have guys step up, we’re going to have to grow,” Montgomery said. “We’ve got some young guys who played a ton of football but maybe weren’t starters. We’ll just have to figure it out on the run, I think our kids will be tough. “We have some question marks, and the schedule isn’t real forgiving so the summer will be critical.”
